SANGERFIELD — A man and woman were displaced from their mobile home on Mason Road this morning after a dryer fire.

Waterville Fire Chief Dennis Baldwin said the dryer fire "spread underneath the mobile home, and basically got to the outside wall" at 885 Mason Road. The couple, whose identities were not available, had woken up on their own, when "they noticed some smoke in the morning," Baldwin said. The man went outside to check under the trailer, while the woman called 9-1-1 at 6:53 a.m.

Baldwin said the fire spread quickly after the couple noticed the smoke, burning portions of the laundry room and kitchen. Crews from three volunteer departments arrived on the scene, and were able to keep the fire and smoke contained to that general area. No one was injured. Smoke detectors were activated by the blaze.

"The house was a loss to them," Baldwin said. "But a lot of their stuff is salvageable." The couple owned the mobile home, Baldwin said, and they were insured.

The couple is receiving assistance from the Red Cross and family, Baldwin stated.

The Waterville, Oriskany Falls and North Brookfield fire departments responded.
